Four people were killed when the police fired at a group of protesting farmers and fishermen at Sompeta in Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.Two more farmers were injured in the firing and are reportedly fighting for their lives. The protestors had started pelting stones at the policemen, who had retaliated by indiscriminate lathi charge.The police then opened fire on a massive crowd that was opposing the state government's proposal to set up a thermal plant.

Seven persons, including four children, were burnt alive as a fire swept through a colony of construction workers in Medchal mandal of Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday afternoon, said the police.
